最近では、LinkedInやorkutを通して仕事依頼が数件来たり、日本にビジネス出張に来る人から連絡があったりと、けっこう役に立っている部分があると感じています。

i haven't been to the friendster site in quite awhile now (perhaps i need to go back to see if there have been any changes).
but to answer your question, i doubt if many people find mates through friendster. although quite often you may see someone attractive, most people find partners through face-to-face encounters (typically at parties or other functions). even with the growing use of online dating services, there's still something very impersonal about meeting a person on the web.
sites like friendster are more designed for people who want to feel popular. finding a boyfriend/girlfriend, would only be an added benefit (not coming very often, i'd imagine). that's my take on the issue.
